How-to: Sending Custom Data Products

A be able to create and deliver custom data product through the data DataHub has many perks:

  • ·         Strict access rules based on logins
  • ·         Easy cost recovery options through Shopify backend
  • ·         Simple file handling – drag n’ drop, one-click download, AWS Storage
  • ·         Standard or custom licensing can be attached to the product
  • ·         Efficient setup for one-off or a reoccurring process (i.e. repeat customers)

To get you custom data product ready to be downloaded by your client, simply send the following information to the Datahub team:

  • ·         Dataset file (as a .zip)
  • ·         Dataset title – must be descriptive
  • ·         Dataset description – one or two sentences about the dataset (e.g. type, location, raw, processed)
  • ·         Customer email – vital for access
  • ·         Purpose of use
  • ·         Price – contact Datahub team for assistance

Information regarding our standard licenses (Commercial and non-commercial) can be found on Datahub here. Due to the nature of a custom data product, the purposes for which it is used and/or the nature of the user it is advisable to check with the DataHub team to make sure a custom license isn’t needed.

Once a draft order has been created, see figure below, it’s checked and the invoice is sent to the customer. Once paid, the customer will be able to access their custom data product in their ‘My Ordered Products Page’. A ‘How-to’ post is available here to show them how to find and download their ordered products.

If you have any questions about the DataHub or are interested in sending a custom dataset, please contact Alex Vincent or Jochen Schmidt.
